A Game of Chess
Who: Dru, Spike, Faith, Dawn, Cordelia, Gunn, and Willow [Wesley?]
Where: A.I.
When: Evening
Status: Incomplete

Princess fell into a fairy tale slumber as Spike drove them back to the angry city. Her belly now full of foolish soldier blood, she hardly noticed the niblet and her big sister in the back seat. With the poisonous invader de-tangled from the tender coils of Spike's mind, she was safe. He wouldn't let anything happen to her as she dreamed, and dream she did.

She watched as each piece took it's place on a board made of black and white, she of course the Queen and Spike her King. The Slayer stood as a Knight and little Dawn a lowly Pawn. Their opponents were void of recognizable faces and yet she knew each one by name. Swiftly, in turn, each piece was moved strategically across the board until...Dru woke with a start and a wicked smile. They must strike where they feel safest.

"They will be coming for you soon." She spoke softly, breaking the endless silence. "They want to take the Slayer and the Girl. I think we should take something of theirs instead. Something of value. The witch perhaps, or maybe the muscle?" She drifted slowly back into thought.

Just like the game, they had to guess their opponents next move and top it.

Faith was sitting in the back of the car, with Dawn's head resting in her lap while Faith absently stroked her sister's hair. Dru had stopped looking at Dawn like she was a snack, which was good. Probably because she was full for now. Hopefully keeping her distracted and fed on others would KEEP her from looking at her and Dawn like they were breakfast and lunch.

When Spike suggested that they grab Wesley, that definitely perked up Faith's ears. "Really? We should definitely pick up my old Watcher. You guys pick up whomever you want, but he's mine." They had some unfinished business to attend to. Some business that she was gonna make sure that Dawn was out of the room for.

"Not sure if Chuck is gonna go lightly, though. May want to stick with Red and just knock him out. Can always carve a note in his back or something if you guys want." She didn't know him at all, so she really didn't care.

Cordelia sat down at her desk with a huff of a sigh. Angel had told her to take a couple extra days off, but she just couldn't sit around and do nothing. She was too bored and Doyle's mancave was just too small. So, she went out shopping with the no money she had and came back to the office empty-handed, save for a smoothie.

She knew the Sunnydale people were in town, but she wasn't sure where they all were at the moment or why there were even here. Something about Faith. Whatever, she was keen to stay far away from anything involving the crazy murderous Slayer.

She picked up the phone as she saw the red light blinking. She took out her post-its and started writing down the many messages left on their answering machine.

Gunn had decided to pop into the office to see if there was anything to do, or, more specifically, anything to fight. He admittedly couldn't get through more than a day or two without going out and attacking some sort of vampire nest if he wasn't working on something else. It was something that he had been doing for years and years now, and, even if he was working with Angel and his friends on occasion, the urge was still there.

When he knocked and peaked his head in, he saw Cordelia sitting by the desk, writing down messages that had been on the answering machine.

"Feeling better?" he asked as he walked inside.

Dru agreed with The Slayer. The muscle would serve them best by being absent. He would have to be removed from the game immediately. She had very little use for a Watcher but the Witch however, she was something of interest. A powerful bobble for her to kneed and mold into usefulness.

She slid her hand deep into her pocket and produced a small, white, rectangular trinket. When she acquired it she could not remember, nore had she known at the time what its use to her might be, but she knew now. Printed on the front was the name, the number, and the address to the very place they needed to be.

She silently handed Angel's business card to Spike and smiled. Take us there, her eyes spoke to him. Her Spike would understand.

Faith's eyes flickered over to the business card, but didn't say anything for the moment. A part of her wanted to get as far away as she could as well, but the darker part of her called for finishing of some unfinished business first. She had business with Angel, Buffy, AND her former Watcher. Once all of that was done and settled, would she be willing to leave California forever.

Sensing that Angel and Buffy weren't in the building, Faith actually decided to stay behind for now. She could always slip away later if she needed to, to deal with anyone that she wanted to deal with.

"Where do you want to go when we're done with this place?" Faith asked her sister, realizing that the girl was awake. Considering all that she had put Dawn through, she'd let her pick the place that they'd eventually get away to. Not like she really cared where as long as it was far away.
